Diversity Experiences
- Cultural Diversity (Spring 2018): During the Cultural Diversity class, I co-taught 3-5 graders about the Early Peoples Exhibit, specifically the Bison and Geology Learning Lab. This experience has enabled me to learn about the Native American cultures that called this land home before we did. In my classroom I will be able to bring in what I have learned about the Early Peoples and share this with my students.
- Fort Abraham Lincoln Capstone (Fall 2018)
- For this project I co-taught with preservice teachers about a Native American game called Keepers of the Fire. This game taught us the importance of the games Native Americans once played and how those games taught them survival skills. Keepers of the Fire taught students the skills of listening and hearing what is around you though you make not be able to see it. It also taught them how to be quiet and sneak up on their prey without being heard. These games were and still are important to the Native American culture and are skills that several of us use today. I will bring this experience into my future classroom when talking about diversity and how though we are different in our own ways there are still things we have in common.
- Studied abroad in Rome (Summer 2017)
- During my time in Rome I was able to explore the Italian life and experience the differences in the way they live. I was also able to travel around Italy as well as visit Mykonos, Greece and Paris, France. This trip has allowed me to understand the difficulties EL students may face when learning a language that is unfamiliar to them as well as the way of living.
